Sick Leave Policy

Editor's Note: Employers must be aware of requirements for paid sick leave under state and local laws. In addition, many federal contractors are obligated to provide paid sick leave to employees working on covered contracts.

[Company Name] recognizes that employees will occasionally need time off from work to recover from an illness, to address their medical needs or to address the medical needs of a family member.

For this purpose, regular full-time employees will accrue sick leave at a rate of one day per month. Part time employees will accrue one day of sick leave every two months. Sick leave may be used for the employee's own illness or for the care of a sick child, spouse, domestic partner or parent.

The company reserves the right to require documentation from a health care professional to verify the need for sick leave and/or authorizing the employee to return to work.

Sick leave balances will roll over from year to year up to a maximum of [number] days. Sick leave will not be paid out to the employee upon termination.
